Happy New Year at Wyke College

A very Happy New Year to everyone. The Spring Term is underway – with continued snow!

It’s probably worth mentioning that learning at Wyke has very rarely been interrupted by adverse weather. Even in the great flood of 2007 we kept going through most of the day! Essentially, so long as it is possible to get here, the College will operate.

That’s important in January because it is the second most important month for examinations. They start on 11th and go right through to the 29th. Please do whatever you can to ensure the right conditions and approach for revision. Simply making a warm quiet place available is the first step, of course. Physical conditions can be important. The right psychological approach is crucial too. Revision is not repetition. It is seeing things anew. This is a creative, questing, investigative process and we need to approach it with confidence, determined to make this understanding and knowledge our own. It then becomes much more straightforward – and enjoyable – to present it to an examiner.

Looking further forward, the next Open Evening is approaching. Anyone who hasn’t already done so – and those that have but would like a second visit – can come to College between 4.30 and 7.00pm on Wednesday, 10th February to talk to subject staff and students and to look around. There will be other events but this is the last opportunity when all staff will be available.

Enjoy the genuine winter!
